Discoid Rocks!

  • Aug. 6th, 2009 at 9:24 PM
What can I say, our Linkshell has been through a lot and has accomplished many things. We're almost capped out on quite a few end game gear, this includes Homam, Nashira, King Body Abjs, Ridill, Ace's Helm, and many other equips. The Relic Sponsorship Program is very new to Discoid LS but has blossomed quite lovely since the implementation, knocking off 1-2 relics every month.

Pics!

Blooooooodclaaaaaaat! Kaiten a mash up de place!

Now it's time to move on to Aegis and Apocalypse.
                                             Shinsei Obama?! (j/k lol)

First I apologize for the late entry, been real busy with a lot of stuff in game and out game, but here's another update for the readers. Ever since taking up leadership for Discoid, I must say this shit ain't no walk in the park. I've heard some people go on about "Oh I ran a Limbus LS, it's easy" or "Oh I used to run a Dynamis LS, this is nothing", but really all of that means nothing to me lol. If I had to say, Discoid is probably one of the most busiest Linkshells on Bismarck, hell or probably one of the most busiest LS'es period.  What many of our members will tell all the new trialees, a good yet sometimes unfortunate reality, "Once you are in Discoid, any free time you ever had to fap whenever is gone".

Seriously, we're always around the clock doing absolutely almost everything. Really Shinsei?  Let's see, Sandworms, Dark Ixions, Khimairas, Nidhogg/Fafnirs, Aspidochelones, King Behemoths, Bahamut V2s, Ouryus, Tiamats, Two  Limbus every week (a Proto-Omegas/Proto-Ultimas every week),  Einherjar & Odins, two Dynamis zones a week, Sea Jailers, ZNMs, KS99s, and some random Kirins here and there, SCNMs.....yea.....busy busy busy busy LS we are ;p

Each new face of leadership pretty much we all got the sack at such a shitty time lol. Right after bannings where we basically lost almost all our strong members which really screwed us over on Einherjar and Dynamises for the longest while. Spent the first two months trying to bounce back from that loss and get back on track to what we used to be doing. After much trial and error, I've grown to realized running a LS of Discoid's Level isn't a walk in the park and I can see why Aesctaa and Mateljan went emo from time to time lol j/k <333.

I still would like to think we aren't fully there yet but I'll confidently say we're in the step in the right direction on getting back on track coming from that shitty phase. Some pics to break away from all this monotonous typing ;p

Back to the old days of claiming multiple HNMs at the same time. Claimed this King Behemoth and Tiamat at almost the same time then sent 5 people to help hold the Tiamat group. After quickly mincing KB we then left BD to finish Tiamat off.
Multi HNM claim

Though our old record was simultaenously claiming/holding, and fighting 4 HNMs at once (King Vinegarroon, Khimaira, Dark Ixion + Tiamat, low manning each). Will be awhile before we get back to that point.

                                    Relic Sponsorship Program

After much thought and planning, the new leaders of Discoid decided on implementing its first Relic Sponsorship Program. If I may say so myself, it's been working out pretty lovely I might say and if we continue to push, we could be knocking out a handful of relics in no time.

Discoid's 1st Sponsored Relic - Gjallarhorn - From start of the sponsorship to finish, took us only 1 month and a few weeks. Which was also counting from the time the RSP was made.
Discoid's 1st Sponsored Relic - GHorn

Farming some attestations and fragment for our new soon to be Aegis. It's only been barely over a month since the moment we were finished funding the Horn and we're very close on finishing Aegis now as we speak. As of this post we are approximately 53/70 on the final stage for Aegis. To any Discoid member that reads this LJ, I encourage you guys to keep doing all the events that helps this RSP shine. Hell you see first hand how fast we can knock these relics off as long as we continue to work hard ;p

WTF Shin on a mage job!?!

To the people that knew me back as Batousai or as "Manslayer" from all those Ballista videos lol....I don't think any of us saw this coming lol but yep, I finally took some mage job to 75;z After having so many jobs to 75, it's a nice change of pace after all these years of smacking enemies with your sword/axe/gaxe/gk/polearm/scythe/katana/FISTS! lol.

This best item I got to ding on to in such awhile(I was already 75 before I got Aces Helm/Ebody etc ; ;).....was able to ding into lolSeveneyes and Zenith Mitts +1.
Cursed Mitts -1

It's my newest leveled job so naturally a lot of gear will still be missing, but at least I'm on the right path for gear choices. 8/8HQ staves, Genie Weskit, Convert HP Gear(for Sorc. Ring), HMP build, High Resist Build(mostly ele skill/macc), Mid Resist(mix and match), Low/No Resit build (all these for nuking), Enfeebling Build, Dark Magic & Stun Build(Dark skill+ gear with some haste on it, both slightly differ), MND build for Stoneskin, Conserve MP(lolWarp2), and an "Idle" build for in between shit which includes Dalmatica, Terra's Staff, Cheviot's Cape, a decent amount of MP to at least have around 970MP in idle. I liked this approach which comes in handy at times in Dynamis and such.

Also have stuff like Prudence Torque for non resistant mobs above the Ugg. Pendant MP mark, Ugg for when it hits the mark. Elemental Torque and Enfeeb Torq ofc, Morgana's Choker and some other crap. I just need to get off my lazy ass and do some Nyzul and Salvage one day lol. Get me some Goliard and Morrigans.

I believe I was 73 in this picture.
Leveling BLM

I'm not gonna type up anything more, so I'll just leave you guys some pics to finish this up!

Acting as Co-tank + DD + Stunner on Cerberus as DRK/NIN. I'm hot :)   A new toy from Odin as well

DRK tanking Cerberus My New MDT piece

My BLM on Tiamat, and I don't even have a Novio Bitches! I claim this AFK spot here on Bismarck! New body piece for PLD also, don't mind the AFK DRK!
DMG on Tiamat (MAB roll) Me in Dalmy New PLD Body ;p

My Last entry, I talked about a change in relics. It wasn't an indecisive decision, as much of a rant it was, I was clear on what I wanted for my linkshell at the time. Yea there I said it. I wanted to push my LS into a certain direction and at the time noone else was stepping up to be the Aegis frontline and I wanted to see some Aegis in the LS because noone can disagree it is still way more beneficial than Amano can ever be. Again "beneficial", I still love samurai till the day I stop playing this game, but it was more that I was thinking about doing something for the LS more than myself. Since then times have changed and other LS members have stepped up to the Aegis plate, so as such, I'll gladly stay focus on my original plan.

Finishing off my Tachi: Kaiten build, self signed Cerberus Mantle +1. Still trying to get Byrnie +1, Cursed Kabuto-1, SCNM orc Helm, and Black Tathlum. After Amano,(yes I'm finishing it lol <.<), I may do Apocalypse, Bow or Gun, not sure as of yet. Still not sure if I can stomach dropping my 8/8 Scythe skill for RNG lol...love DRK so much, but Amano + Bow would be hella nice lol.

Ranger TP Gear, Barrage and WS Gear. I'm missing quite a few pieces but meh, I still think my RNG is decently geared to say the least.

Solving the Riddil

  • Feb. 9th, 2009 at 11:10 AM
**Fair warning, this is a very long LJ post, so if you need to take a break and continue reading on a later date, feel free haha**.

           Solving the Ridill

At last, we are finally getting some luck with Fafnir drops. We are currently at two Ridill drops as of this date. Congratz Darkwood and more importantly myself on the second Ridill! More to come in the future for Discoid! I'm making it my oath to see to it every last one of us obtains a Seiryu's Sword +1 ;z

                                                                   Amanomurohuh?

I know there are a handful of people who would like to know my whole stance on my quest for Amanomurakumo is, and I'll gladly just settle this right here in my LJ. Through much deliberation I have decided to put off Amano unfortunately and go after Aegis instead. Yes "but you have Stage 4, you should just do it!" are some of  the frequent responses I've been getting, but that's the problem. As days go by, I've come to realize Amano was more of a "just do it for doing sakes" kind of thing instead of what I really wanted to do. I've played this game making a lot of regrets over time invested in certain things that I wish I never started in the first place.

Let's start off with Goldsmithing. I took up the crafting skill Goldsmithing on a whim, based upon hear says such as "Hey, that JP guy makes a killing off GS", "Oh my friend made 50m from GS", etc. and that became my only reason to level GS. I did not research anything to see how it would fair out in the long haul, what items would I be focusing on when I get to 100? How much gil would I need to invest in this craft? What skilling path(s) should I take to guarantee less gil consumption and higher productivity? Disregarding money items, am I after a specific synth(s) to make for myself with this craft? Looking at the server's economy, would this be a wise decision to take up this craft?  Heck, would I enjoy Goldsmithing in general? There were endless factors I never took into consideration, GS was simply done on a whim and that's it. Whether you would like to believe my story or not, I have wasted over 35,000,000 gil on goldsmithing for my silly attempts into PL'ing it. I retired GS and never picked it up again.

I am now a Lv100 Leathercrafter, but the only difference is, this time around I considered every possible angle before I even got it to Lv10, watched the economy, see what items are in demand, what aren't, what farming methods I need to implement to make this productive, what synths do I plan on making when I'm at 100, etc. After so much planning and thought, I took leathercraft to 100 and I am proud to say, I have zero regrets.

I regret buying 3,000 T.White Shells and 5,000 Byne Bills during the infamous Inflation period. Though I did manage to sell a few off, but I held on to way too much currency. During that period, I spent over 50,000,000 gil. See, a smart person, or someone who knows a bit about how an economy works, should have realized, "What comes next right after every inflation?"....a depression. Again, I was not thinking clearly, I was so eager to finish a relic plus it was the first time in my entire FFXI career that I ever accumulated this much gil. As they say, you give a black man some money, they go and buy some dumb ass rims instead of investing their money wisely. I have made numerous hasty decisions in which now I am having some regrets of. At least I was smart enough to make some gil during the inflation on other items to begin with, but the majority of my gil I made was blown away on Goldsmithing and Currency.  Depression finally hit the servers, and now currency that were 100k/piece, went down to 5k/piece.... Now look me in the eye(or the PC screen haha) and tell me, do you understand just how much gil I lost for my carelessness?

I won't stretch out this LJ any further so let me get straight to the point, I'd be damn if I do something again that cannot be reversed just to be pissed off about it down the road. As I stated early, Amano was more of a "just do it" kind of thing. Yea I played samurai a lot, let's just do Amano... . Really? Was this my only decision to upgrade this weapon? Personally I rather not have another "Goldsmithing" scenario, if anything my next decision should be treated with the same principles I did for Leathercraft, on which I was more happy about. To make sure everyone understands my side of it, I'll quickly explain my reasoning for putting off Amano for now.

The moment I trade in the currency, what's done is done. Those 7,000 bronze pieces which is roughly now equivalent to 90,000,000 gil on Bismarck will be lost, gone, forever, silverpieces being the most harder to get type without selling your soul. As it is right now, my gil has become tight, and I'm at a point where I don't think I can pull 90m gil out my ass anymore, much less acquire this many silverpieces for a price my pocket can afford. So when it's said and done, and let's say I blow away these expensive ass silverpieces, is this what I really want? Do I really want Amano? Is this going to be another regret like Goldsmithing was for me? As it stands right now, I will only have enough gil to do one relic and one relic only. It sucks that it took me up to stage 4 to realize my mistake, but that's just what it is man.

The above paragraph is one of the considerations to the switch, and the following also plays a part for my change of heart.
  • Amanomurakumo is simply a damage tool. That's it, a stronger weaponskill against "weak mobs"(aka merit type mobs), which also sucks donkey dick on anything that even remotely matters. So in all essence, it's just a damage tool, harder melee hits, occassional 2x damage, strong ws for merit pts/Limbus/soft pussy shit. (I have accumulated over 1000 merits, fuck I care about my performance there).
  •
  • Kaiten on the Fragmentation side, now this is a plus, and opens up the skillchain side of things. But all this investment just for a different skillchain spot that isn't even necessary? lol....not worth it.
  •
  • Amanomurakumo does not change any mechanics for Samurai. The weapon by itself does not allow for a 5 hit due to the delay on the weapon without severely changing your entire gear, removing a lot of haste equipment......It really brings nothing new to the mechanics of Samurai, in all fairness, the STP+7 is a joke, especially now that SE lowered the duration of RoZ Aftermath effects to 20s for 100TP. The Aftermath always wear off for me before I get to engage the next mob in dynamis, and with it on, it's nothing to write home about. Still require the same amount of hits to reach 100TP whoopty fucking do.
  •
  • Okay I get Amanomurakumo, now what? Fuck yes I would use it Einherjar, more damage there is a plus. Okay, one area covered, what about Tiamat?...errr no....Khimaira?...Dark Ixion?...King Behemoth?...The weaponskill is dumb as fuck on those things, and the aftermath is a 100% joke on those fights since it will more than likely wear off before you can make any use of it(even thouh the +7STP does not grant you a new hit build............)since you can't melee those things non stop...... Okay, Limbus? Come on, be real...I'm supposed to get a relic just to get epeen numbers during Limbus and other simplistic events? Merit pts? Like I said, I've gathered 1000 merits, fuck if  I care anything about merit pt.Fafhogg? This dude's a joke, kill speed is not an issue. The only deal breaker would be if we attempted PW/AV, and even then, it's highly debatable.
  •
  • Majority of the endgame fights (Ixion, Khimaira, CoP Wyrms, hnms in general) Aegis is still more useful there than Amano could ever hope to be.
  •
  •
  • Apocalypse would have been a better choice, any DRK with a brain will agree with me it really does change the mechanics of DRK by adding a completely new feature that was never a trait for DRK in the first place on to the weaponskill, namely haste and Drain Effect
  • .
  • The Drain effect pretty much warrants you using souleater whenever the fuckever you feel like, a non-apoc DRK can't really do this due to MP issues, this is not even a concern for an Apoc-DRK. 10% Haste from weaponskills makes room to swap out a few haste gear for attack and other stuff while the aftermath is in effect. Without a doubt, Apoc really adds something new to the table, cannot say the same for RelicGK
  •
  • Aegis - I don't think I have to even explain. -25%Magic Damage taken already means you no longer have to wear stupid ass Iron Ram Lance and a shit load ofequips just to hit the MDT cap. As far as wyrms goes, you can keep your TP throughout the entire fight since you will never ever have to take the shield out.
  •
  • Due to the -25% MDT, an Aegis PLD can always take far less damage than any other PLD by being able to utilize the -25% MDT from one slot and being able to wear MDB gear in the other available slots simultaenously. This is hands down a Godsend.
  •
  • With the recent addition of atonement, DD type PLD has become more viable as a playstyle for tanking. Having an Aegis on you, makes this far more feasible and less strain on the MP at the same time.
  •
  • Aegis is still more beneficial to an endgame LS lol.
There are a few other reasons, but yea...I think I'm ready to decide....I'm putting off Amano for now in plans of upgrading Aegis. If I'm only able to do one relic in my FFXI career, it's going to be Aegis hands down.

Oh Em Gee

  • Nov. 19th, 2008 at 3:21 AM
This entry will primarily focus on wtf  "oh em gee" moments.

Yea...this is not something I get to see often...just a couple of things that's been happening the past few months lol.....they say a picture is a thousand words

Poor KB...

Free King Behemoths anyone?....my ls scored three consecutive free KB's...if only could see Nidhogg like this lol

Two Defending rings within three months is just........hawt

Our paladins are getting really pimped out lol...so far we're sitting at Defending Ring x2, Hauteclaire x7, Valor Cape x5, Shadow Ring x9!
And that's between our 11 Paladins, 9 being more active.

Got to tank my first Ouryu yesterday lol, was pretty fun and I got to see how broken PLD/RDM is on that fight lol. Hate from Flash, blind, dispel spam is just nuts and I take pretty low ass damage lol. Stoneskin was off before I took these damage pics, first damage pic iirc was a low/mid dmg from an unblocked hit, 2nd and 3rd dmg pic were a shield blocks. Pretty fun combo it is, I could imagine how much it even is with an Aegis lol.

Maybe I'll try Ixion /RDM!.......but that just sounds more like a trouble without Aegis, but who knows!

Nine Inch Bots? Another oh em gee, or at least, just something that's always funny to see. Some members from NiN casting on Fafnir for claim while being afk ;p *cough* Chronik then *cough* Megido the day after. Shit, looks like they just picked up(read: bought) extra stripped characters for claiming purposes....hmmm I wonder what it could be, I bet it's all legit bob! Well at least they don't deny it lol, though cases like this is not uncommon in this day and age, but I always get a kick out of seeing it.

Lastly, some teaser for the finale

More Oh em gee moments.....was hard for me to do this. Sentimental values but oh well!

Take a Bow

  • Oct. 4th, 2008 at 5:15 AM
Been at the endgame scene for years now, and every Aspid I've been a part of never dropped an A.Body lol. Has always been D.feet(majority of the times), M.Feet and W.Body. So it was a nice "change of pace" to see an A.Body drop for my LS for once after two years. Every other LS seems to get an A.body on half their kills yet I've only ever been "D-Feet'ed"so to speak.

Gratz Phillycheasesteaksandwich on your A.Body :P

I'm about to say something which I didn't want to on my LJ since the "meaning" of the following topic can be easily "misinterpreted" but I'll try my best on the clarity. Despite all of that it's the absolute truth anyways, but topics like these are usually a sensitive thing to others. Anyways I would have to openly admit I was never a fan of Linkshells that were based on a Point System based on my own past experiences for obvious reasons, though at the same time, this does not mean "Item Distribution by Leader's Discretion" type system are all glitter and glamor either. Both system really have their pros and cons, but the idea in it all is try to be fair as possible to your members, but let me get straight to my point.

Jokingly if anyone really sit back and think about it, Discoid probably had the highest potential for the "Favoritism Atmosphere" to exist if you ask me and hear me out on this. Half or at least all the original members were derived from the same previous LS, so most of us already know each other, and some sides could easily be thrown in our favor compared to the newer members. Despite all those conditions and possible scenarios, this however is not even the case. I have to say Discoid Leaders have done an excellent job on distributing items as fair as possible to its members.

We are pretty swiftly acquiring high end gears for the majority of our member base at an increasing rate each day the linkshell grows. From Black Belt completions, BLM, RDM hats from Xarc, countless assassin armlets, Shadow Gears, Torques, JoL Earrings, Ixion Gears, Ace's Helms,  to Body Abj's (Ebody Mbody Abody, Pbody, etc) and more. Heck I'm not sure if some of these people are even aware of it, but some of these people got some of these stuff like just a couple of days or a week or two after being in the LS. Shit....you already know there isn't any "Favoritism/Gear Hogging going on" when new members or just members in general are looting more shit than the leaders themself lol.

Long rambling but in short, I'm just giving my hats off to the Discoid Leaders for doing a good job so far, keep it up!

I'll end this post with a few pics, enjoy                          ~ Warning  FUCK ton of pics -

Discoid LS of Bismarck was created on July 14, 2008, two days after my old LS Prophets "disbanded".

The following is as of October 4th, 2008.

We as a Linkshell have succesfully overcome several Odins, Sea Jailers, Ground Kings, Fafnirs,  Dark Ixions, Sandworms, Cerberus, Khimaira, King Vinegaroons, Proto-Omegas/Ultimas, various Dynamis zones including Dynamis Lord, ZNMs etc etc. We are a pretty active LS and we basically do everything "as a LS Event" besides Salvage where people tend to just do the smaller group routine with each other.

Total Odins: 2

Total King Behemoths: 4 ~ Camped Behemoth's Dominion a total of 7 times maybe.

Total Aspids: 3 ~ Camped Valley of Sorrows a total of 9 times max.? Give or take.

Got this body off our first Nidhogg (Total 1) ~ Now this we've always had bad luck on. Our claims tends to be NQ faf lol, never nid.

Total Fafnirs: 10 ~ Camped DA approx. 24 times

Tiamat: 8                                                                                           Dynamis Lord: 5
